The City of La Crosse Announces an Update to their Zoning and Subdivision Code and Upcoming Community Input Opportunities
“Zoning impacts our daily lives. It determines how land in La Crosse can be used and developed, influencing how our neighborhoods look, where businesses operate, and even how we get around. However, outdated zoning regulations can be confusing and create barriers to positive change.” — Tim Acklin, AICP
Deputy Director – City of La Crosse Planning and Development
This update will include a comprehensive review of the City’s existing zoning code and address challenges that includes, off-street parking requirements, minimum lot sizes and setbacks, design standards, and permitted uses.
The goal is to craft a modern, user-friendly code that reflects the community’s needs while making it easier to understand and administer.
The City will seek to gather community input over the course of the project and provide an opportunity for the community to have a say in how La Crosse grows and develops. Residents, business owners, and other stakeholders are invited to participate in upcoming workshops, surveys, and public events. Community feedback is essential in shaping the zoning code and the future development of La Crosse.
Several events are being planned for Housing Week in April 2025. Additionally, pop-up events will be held across La Crosse to engage the community, share information about the initial survey, and promote the upcoming community workshop.
