Forward La Crosse Returns to Housing Week: Pop-Up Events and Community Sessions Set for May 4–5, 2026

La Crosse, WI (April 2026) The City of La Crosse and Habitat for Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region, AARP, and Couleecap, invite residents to engage with the Forward La Crosse Zoning Code Update during the second annual La Crosse Housing Week, running May 2–9, 2026. Pop-up tables and two community sessions on May 4 and 5 will give residents a chance to see how more than a year of community input is shaping the city’s draft zoning code.

Since the project launched in late 2024, more than 1,200 residents have participated through surveys, neighborhood association meetings, pop-up events, and stakeholder interviews. The top themes that emerged include more housing options, a simpler and easier-to-use code, walkable neighborhoods, and more. These priorities are now guiding the project team as the draft code takes shape.

On May 5, City staff and project partners will host two standalone sessions open to the public. The lunch session runs from 12:00–1:00 PM and the evening session from 5:30–6:30 PM, both at the Public Library Main Branch (800 Main St). Each session will include a presentation covering zoning fundamentals, the latest draft, and ways to get involved, followed by time for questions and feedback. Both events are free and family-friendly.

Pop-up tables will also be set up throughout the week at the La Crosse Public Library, Riverside Park, and at Grounded Coffee Shop. Residents can stop by to review engagement findings, explore draft residential districts, and share feedback.

“Zoning shapes how our community grows, and we want residents to help guide that future. Housing Week is about making the process accessible, transparent, and rooted in the voices of the people who live here.” — Tim Acklin, AICP, Deputy Director, City of La Crosse Planning and Development
